Effective rabbit training starts with building a relationship. In order to train your pet rabbit proper behavior and special tricks, you must gain his or her trust. Without this, your animal will have difficulty in approaching you and, especially, in following your lead.
Establishing trust is not really difficult. It is only a matter of time and patience. Spend at least 15 to 30 minutes a day with your rabbit in the beginning. Give more time if you can. One of the best moments is during feeding. Sit quietly at a short distance while holding some food. Let your rabbit approach the food. Avoid sudden movements.
You can do this with treats also. After letting your pet rabbit eat from your hand several times, begin petting your animal while he or she eats. Remember to raise your hand slowly the first few times. Your rabbit should already be quite comforable with your presence.
Now that you have established a relationship of trust, you can begin training your pet rabbit for other things.
